Temper Tantrums - Take 2

My belief was (and correct me if I'm wrong), when we celebrated Mattea's 3rd birthday, I said good bye to those evil two year old tempter tantrums forever. Within 24 hours of turning 3, my sweet Mattea was a changed girl - until now.

Yikes!

What in the heck happened I'm asking myself these days. I don't know if this is some kind of ridiculous phase we are going through but her behavior is nothing short of annoying. I have learned that temper tantrums at 2 are challenging and somewhat frustrating - but at 4 - well those are downright un-lady-like. She has had the most rotten attitude lately and I sincerely believes she thinks that throwing herself to the floor like her sister will somewhat elicit a positive response from me. Thought she would have learned her lesson 2 yeas ago.

Any suggestions out there from you moms to struggle through this stage without throwing myself on the floor with a temper tantrum. Because one of these days, I'm quite sure mommy is going to be the one with the breakdown.

And in case you couldn't tell, I documented one of these events so y'all knew I was telling the truth.

Sorry Heather, I understand. I think it's a 4 year old independence thing. Or at least that's what I tell myself, so no real help to give. But let me just say the photo is perfect. Love the "Family FUN Times" sheet under M! What a riot! Tantrums so NOT FUN!!

How about the approach "since you are acting like a two year old, you will be treated like one." This means, to bed early, no 'big girl' activities, etc. Just a suggestion... Good luck!

I know that no one would really take my advice seriously, but the next time she has a tantrum you should throw yourself on the floor too (as long as it isn't in public) and she can see how ridiclous she looks. If anything it could be interesting to see her reaction. I'm guessing she might not know how to take it. If anything, I hope this makes you laugh.

Hey Heather,
Wish I could say that it gets better, but try a five year old acting the same way. While I have to say that they are typically a rare occurence these days, when it does happen, I feel like throwing myself on the floor! Hang in there and try to remember all the good times and what you love about her when you are in the midst of it!

Howdy (former) neighbor! Would you believe I finally went through one of my piles of paperwork and stumbled upon your Christmas letter? Well, I've been following your blog and LOVING it! We experience MANY temper tantrums at our house with our almost 3 year old, Isaiah. I keep hoping as he ages the number of daily tantrums will decrease. We also have a new baby, Haylee, who is almost 6 months. I really admire you with your two little ones and juggling work and all their activities. Viewing your blog makes me feel like I’m not alone juggling the madness of motherhood. Oh, what our mothers never told us!!! Miss you in Albuquerque, New Mexico!!

I love this post and all the advice as we are experiencing the same thing. What makes me laugh is when Bennett purposely throws himself on the floor and screams at the top of his lungs like he's hurt and then looks at me to see what I'm going to do.
